2024 Championship Decided

Published Mon 28 Oct 2024

The dust has barely settled from the 59 finishers pounding the streets of Bradbury and Airds from yesterdays October 10K Handicap final, but the excitment of that morning still lingers. There was an air of anticipation on that unseasonably crisp October morning. We were in for a fantastic race, the points table was very tight at the top and the number of contenders for the championship was tantalisingly high. The fate of the championship was left to the best effort of those who turned up on the day. No other factors were in play. The staggered start made it easy to determine the winner, for most participants their hopes of a podium finish evaporated on the count of three, as they bore witness to those who were in better form fly past to spoil their personal parties...

For the 2024 Championship the most spoiling flyer of all was 🏆 Tom Limbrey who eased past most of the field to claim all the points required to lead the table. The next two points contenders Bradley Cunningham and Clarisse Baker were a little further down the pack but held enough advantage to claim a remarkable equal second in the points tally! What better finish to the season could you ask! An honourable mention goes to our fourth place getter who pipped both second place getters at the post, but alas did not collect enough beans to surpass either on the table, well done Michael Shanahan.

Presidents Cup

The Presidents Cup was also up for grabs. We had four finalists, but only three contenders. Who would take out the prize? For those left flailing in the brutal wake of Tom Limbrey as he powered past there was no real surprise who would win. Tom won. Told you. However he had to work for it, Michael Shanahan never says die, even if it's likely he might do just that trying, while thankfully that didn't occur, Tom's brutality prevailed leaving Michael with second place. Finishing in a gallant third was Clarisse Baker who probably had one too many hot chips last night (inside information), but nonetheless still achieved an impressive time being fastest female.

October 10K Handicap

But there was also the October Handicap in play which in itself was another race! Although the points were moot, the placegetters still earned their podium in stylish fashion. In contrast to her handicap margin, there was no real surprise with our first placegetter Meagan Price, the surprise being the impressive difference of 4:53 on her handicap as she firmly grasped the red singlet, and a visit to our favourite physiotherapist The Healthy Body Company Mount Annan. In second place and with another PB, Abid Reza sliced 1:23 from his handicap time, and third on the podium was Jenny Crowe who is now very familiar with that furniture as she achieved another PB.

Thanks again to The Parkway Perk for the coffee vouchers all year!

Well done to all our winners!
